A truck driving on Highway 40 eastbound caught fire Thursday night, forcing a portion of the highway to close for hours.

Emergency services were called around 10:30 p.m. about the incident.

There were no reported injuries, but the driver was taken to hospital for shock.

Highway 40 eastbound remained closed until about 9 a.m. or so on Friday morning, between Christophe-Colomb Avenue and Saint-Michel Blvd. – as cleanup crews finished.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and it caused traffic headaches for many amid the rush hour commute.
