Special weather statement issued for Metro Montreal

MONTREAL (CITYNEWS) – Environment Canada is warning Montrealers to be ready to wake up to a fresh blanket of snow Wednesday morning.

The agency has issued a special weather statement for Metro Montreal and Laval area stating a “vigorous cold front” is making it’s way across Quebec overnight.

“As it passes, flurries at times heavy could affect several regions of Western, Southern and Central Quebec on Wednesday. The winds will also strengthen and blowing snow may significantly reduce visibilities,” reads the special weather statement.

“Expect hazardous and changing driving conditions.”

Around two centimetres of snow is expected to fall overnight with an additional two expected during the day Wednesday. There’s a further chance of snow over the weekend.

Environment Canada also says temperatures are expected to drop off dramatically after the cold front passes. Forecasted highs for the rest of the week range from minus seven to minus 16 during the day. Overnight temperatures could dip as low as minus 22 without wind chill.

Extreme cold and blowing snow warnings and advisories have been issued for other parts of southern Quebec.
