NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to campaign for first time in Burnaby South

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – While Andrew Scheer and Elizabeth May campaign out east, Justin Trudeau is in NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s riding of Burnaby South.
Singh was in Winnipeg making an announcement on climate change Tuesday morning but is scheduled to return to Burnaby for a town hall in the evening.
It will be his first campaign appearance at home, and UBC political science professor Richard Johnston isn’t surprised it’s taken this long.

“I think it’s more symptom than cause – the NDP just does not have a lot of money,” he says. “They’ve also been slower than all the parties to get their nominees in place.”
Johnston says it shows the NDP’s organizational problems.
“I think it’s symptomatic of a general, organizational weakness that goes back before Mr. Singh, but has not been helped by his leadership.”
But Johnston says Singh’s delay in campaigning at home likely won’t hurt his prospects, and he has plenty of time to get his local campaign off the ground.
