Shaw founder, JR Shaw, dies at the age of 85

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – JR Shaw, the founder of Shaw Communications, has passed away at the age of 85.

The former CEO stepped down in 1998, when his son, Jim Shaw, took over.

“My family and I are at a loss for words and are deeply saddened at JR’s passing,” said Brad Shaw, CEO of Shaw Communications in a news release.

“JR was the founder and leader of our company, but he was also an exceptional husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy of love and compassion for people will live on for generations.”

The company said JR’s son and the Shaw’s current CEO, Brad Shaw, will take over JR’s executive chairman position.

The company plans to confirm the appointment at its April 9 board meeting.
