MONTREAL (CITYNEWS) – Next stop: Oscar Peterson station?

A petition currently circulating online is calling for the city to rename Lionel-Groulx metro station in honour of the famed jazz pianist.

Peterson, born and raised in Montreal’s Little Burgundy neighbourhood, was an eight-time Grammy-Award winner.

Saint-Henri resident Naveed Hussain started the online petition. Hussain is hoping Montreal recognizes the Black, Indigenous, and people of colour who contributed to the city’s success.

With discussions about systemic racism and representation at the forefront these days, the petition is gaining momentum. It currently has more than 6,500 signatures.
