Winnipeg to become hub city for CFL

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – The CFL continues to make moves to returning in 2020.

The league announced that Winnipeg will be used as a hub for the entire shortened 2020 season.

The announcement comes a day after Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister said the Manitoba government was willing to spend $2.5-million to bring the CFL to the province.

IG Field the home of defending Grey Cup champions opened in 2013 and is one of the league’s newest stadiums and previously hosted the Grey Cup Final in 2014.

Winnipeg reportedly beat out Calgary and Regina for hosting rights.

The next step for returning to play for the CFL will be striking a deal with the players.

More to come.
