CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary woman is very upset at the Conservative Party of Canada leadership contenders.

Maura Wildi called 660 NEWS after seeing video footage of four candidates shaking hands, and even hugging, after Erin O’Toole was declared the winner of the vote.

Wildi says they were not following COVID-19 health protocols and it’s a slap in the face of Canadians who have been doing everything they can to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We are sacrificing our families. We’re sacrificing our jobs. We go there as front-liners. We do our best to carry out the protocols. And we see our leaders, because of their elation, they think that they can do whatever they want to do at the moment. It breaks my heart.”

She says she kept watching, hoping it was just a mistake.

“Whether they would react instantaneously (and obey protocols). No, they just carried on.”

She says it’s especially heartbreaking because of the sacrifices she and many other Canadians have made in order to respect the protocols and limit the spread of COVID-19.

“I couldn’t even see my daughter from Toronto because of these protocols. And then you see these leaders… It just breaks my heart.”

Wildi says she plans to contact all the candidates to tell them how seeing them not following the rules made her feel.

She says she’s also considering a call to the Health Ministry to ask why public health orders weren’t enforced.
