Four Montreal school staff members test positive for COVID-19

MONTREAL – Four teachers or staff members of schools in the greater Montreal area have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement. This, as the first day of classes begins for thousands of students at French-language boards across Quebec today.

The Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île, based primarily in the city’s east end, confirmed it has three of the cases. They say those involved have not been in contact with any students and are in quarantine.

Education Minister Jean-François Roberge said at a press conference Thursday morning in Repentigny, that “we shouldn’t create a climate of panic. […] Sanitary measures are transparent and when there is a case, we won’t hide it. We will simply say it.” Roberge also reiterating the importance of respecting safety measures put in place to assure a successful back-to-school period.
