Quebec reports 292 new cases of COVID 19, five deaths attributed to novel coronavirus

MONTREAL – Quebec is reporting 292 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus.

Health authorities said today one death occurred in the past 24 hours and four others occurred between Sept. 8-13.

The province has now reported a total of 65,554 COVID-19 infections and 5,785 deaths linked to the virus.

Authorities say hospitalizations increased by nine, for a total of 133. Of those, 23 patients are in intensive care, an increase of four.

Quebec resumed publishing a list of school-linked COVID-19 cases Monday, reporting 283 infections in 172 schools. The province says 144 classrooms have been closed due to the virus, 130 of which are in the public system.

Authorities say students account for 217 confirmed cases while 66 involve staff members. Of those, 249 cases are the public school system.
