QUEBEC (CityNews) – “Stop socializing for 28 days.”

That’s the message Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé pushed at a news conference on Friday as he updated the COVID-19 situation in the province.

“I insist on this. It’s for a month.”

Quebec reported 637 new cases of the virus, the highest daily number since May 21 – hitting the over 70,000 infected mark.

Dubé says Public Health experts believe that if the spread of the virus can be contained for two consecutive two-week stretches, the second wave of the virus will be better contained.

An increase in cases, outbreaks, and hospitalizations prompted the Minister to move the entire greater Montreal region to ‘orange’ alert – applying to parts of the Laurentians, Lanaudière and Montérégie.

“Please, take the call,” Dubé also said, announcing that when health workers contact you for a test result or get in touch with someone who may have been exposed, the caller ID will now show Santé Québec, instead of blocked caller.

Dubé estimated that up to 30 per cent of people contacted don’t pick up the phone because of this.
