Quebec reports more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for first time since May

By The Canadian Press

Quebec is reporting 1,052 new COVID-19 cases on Friday — the first time since early May that new cases have topped 1,000 in the province hardest hit by the novel coronavirus.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 76,273.

No new deaths related to the virus were reported in Quebec, leaving the death count since the beginning of the pandemic at 5,857.

The rising number of cases prompted the Quebec government this week to declare its highest alert level for greater Montreal, Quebec City, and a region south of the provincial capital.
