Joey Moss: Edmonton’s unsung sports hero has died

EDMONON (CityNews) – Edmonton Oilers sports legend Joey Moss has died.
Moss, 57, was a staple in the Edmonton community. Starting with the Oilers in 1985 with the backing of Wayne Gretzky.
The Oilers’ organization described Moss has an amazing individual saying in a statement, “Whether he was filling up water bottles, folding towels or vacuuming the dressing room, Moss’ commitment to the Oilers was unmatched as his tenure was longer than that of nearly anyone in the organization.
“Joey’s witty personality and outgoing nature were what made him such a staple. Moss could always be seen on the broadcasts of Oilers games right alongside the tunnel to the dressing room belting the national anthems, too.”

Moss also dedicated his love of sports to working with Edmonton’s CFL team during the summer months, before the NHL would return to action.

In 2003, Moss was awarded the NHL’s Seventh Man Award, for his dedication behind-the-scenes with the Oilers. In 2015, he was also inducted into Alberta’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Moss will forever be remembered in Edmonton for nothing holding him back, his amazing personality, spirit, and dedication.
