MONTREAL (CityNews) – Pierrefonds-Roxboro is making a stretch of road safer after a teen was killed last month.
A 15-year-old girl was walking along Lalande Blvd. when a 59-year-old male driver lost control of his vehicle June 17.
Many have been have spoken out about the road, as drivers use it frequently to try and avoid congested Gouin Blvd.
Borough Mayor Jim Beis passed a new bylaw Monday to make the street safer, lowering the speed limit from 40km/hr to 30km/hr, install free-standing markers in the middle of the street with new speed limit, and adding two speed bumps in the coming week.
Police patrols are also being increased to enforce the new speed limit and the borough says it will hire a consultant to see how long-term safety can be improved.
