‘I love fashion’: Montreal designer rocks Paris Fashion Week

I love designing," says Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, creator of MRKNTN, the Montreal brand that recently made its debut at Paris Fashion Week. Pamela Pagano reports.

From Montreal to Paris Fashion Week, the MRKNTN streetwear brand recently made its debut in the fashion capitol.

“I love fashion,” said Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, designer of MRKNTN. “I love doing it, I love designing.”

“It was kind of crazy because I didn’t see everything,” he added. “I was backstage at the show, but it was just, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!”

“The Fool” is what he named the new collection showcased in Paris.

It references to the Fool tarot card associated with the unknown.

“It’s a dream come true for a fashion designer to be in Paris,” explained Lynch-Boisvert. “It’s kind of the biggest accomplishment you can have.”

“It’s so quick,” he said. “So much preparation for this 10-minutes of like, people walking.”

That runway, showcasing his inspiration: high end skate culture.

Also sewed between his designs since starting the brand in 2015 – his love for vampires.

“I don’t know why I have to put vampires everywhere,” said Lynch-Boisvert. “Skatewear everywhere.”

Very fashion-forward – but now let’s rewind to 2022 when the Montreal designer found himself in Los Angeles.

He was the first Canadian to be on “Making the Cut,” an American reality TV series where designers face challenges that test their creation skills.

“Designing with people around you that are doing the same thing with the same passion as you, ” he said. “It was like very fresh.”

Off the screen, Lynch-Boisvert inspires by teaching future designers at Montreal’s LaSalle college.

How does he accessorize his life with all these accomplishments?

The support of his community.

“They are my believers,” he said. “They believe in me.”

And for those starting out in the fashion world, his advice: to believe in yourself.

“There’s always someone somewhere who is going to be very into what you are doing,” explained Lynch-Boisvert. “So continue.”
