Extended hours for parking meters on hold until end of summer at least

The Plante administration says extended hours for paid parking in Montreal won’t come into effect until at least the end of summer.

The official opposition had called on the City of Montreal to reverse its decision to extend paid parking after some downtown merchants discovered the new parking stickers without warning.

The extended paid parking hours would mean parking meters would be in effect until 11 p.m. six days a week, with Sunday being the only day paid parking ends at 6 p.m.

Currently meters must be paid until 9 p.m. weekdays and until 6 p.m. weekends.

The Plante administration had put the plan on hold following some backlash.

Speaking to media Wednesday mayor Valérie Plante said they are in conversation with merchants, who say they were caught off guard, admitting their strategy was wrong.

She said they are not in a rush to roll this out and they are open to changes.
