Members of a fourth union affiliated with the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement (FAE) narrowly accepted the agreement in principle with the Quebec government.
At a general meeting held Tuesday night, the members of the Syndicat de l’enseignement de l’ouest de Montréal (SEOM) approved the agreement in principle by 51 per cent, the union announced on its Facebook page.
SEOM did not provide any further information, including the number of members who attended the meeting and voted. They represent around 7,200 teachers at the Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys.
Teachers in the west end of Montreal followed their colleagues in Outaouais, who had accepted the agreement in principle by 57 per cent on Monday.
Last week, the agreement had been adopted by the Alliance des professeur(e)s de Montréal, at 52 per cent, and by the Syndicat de l’enseignement de la Pointe-de-l’Île at 58.5 per cent.
Only one union, the Syndicat de l’enseignement de la région de Laval, rejected the agreement so far – by 68 per cent.
On Wednesday, the members of the Syndicat de l’enseignement des Basses-Laurentides will have to vote on the agreement in principle.
The Syndicat de l’enseignement de la région de Québec will then hold its own meeting on Thursday evening.
Five of the nine unions affiliated to the FAE and a majority of the 66,500 members must ratify the agreement in principle for it to be accepted. A decision will be announced Feb. 7.
