Drivers should be extra vigilant on Quebec roads today.
Quebec provincial police are expected to be carrying out a province-wide road safety operation Wednesday across the entire territory patrolled by its police officers and those of 28 municipal police forces.
The operation will target reckless driving, speeding, driving impaired by alcohol, drugs, or fatigue, as well as distracted driving.
Police data shows that in more than 21 per cent of fatal crashes, one or more people in a car were not wearing a seat belt. Police officers will be keeping on eye out for that those infractions in Wednesday’s operation.
The Sûreté du Québec operation will also identify road vehicles with non-compliant equipment, as well as drivers failing to provide access to parking spaces designated for disabled people.
This operation is part of a transportation network safety strategy which aims to reduce the number of fatal accidents and collisions with serious injuries in Quebec.
A similar operation was carried out last summer.
