By News Staff

Montreal police (SPVM) are asking the public for help about a murder that took place on Sept. 21 in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

A mobile command post was deployed near the scene of the incident on Tuesday morning – near the intersection of Sherbrooke East and Arcand Street.

Investigators were present at the site to collect information and testimonies that may help the case.

“At this moment from now, we’re trying to get more information with the major crime unit investigators that are trying to figure out what really happened during that altercation and who did what and where at this moment,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. “So, that’s why there’s a command post was established here today until 3 p.m.”

According to police, on Sept. 21 around 6:55 p.m., a conflict between a group of individuals degenerated outside an Esso on Sherbrooke Street East, between Arcand Street and Haig Ave.

The groups dispersed west and south of the gas station – near Arcand and Robert-Jurie – and that’s when a 19-year-old man was stabbed.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died the following day.

“We know for a fact that the altercation started in the gas station behind me in the parking lot and from there it kind of moved and the altercation stopped right behind me in the other parking lot on the corner street of Sherbrooke. We’re trying to get more information and more details on what happened there,” explained Brabant.

Two men were arrested on the scene. A 27-year-old man was charged for armed assault and a 19-year-old man was charged with armed robbery.

This marks the 26th homicide in Montreal this year.

Police say they were able to get video footage from the surrounding area and spoke with various witnesses who described what happened on Sept. 21.

“We’re trying to put the puzzle together to really understand what happened. We know for a fact that when police officers arrived, there were many people that left the scene. So, we’re trying to get maybe a witness, another surveillance camera that could give us information on a person that was involved in the altercation. We’re trying to get more information by doing some door-to-door and at the same time hopefully, some people could come forward and give information so we could move on in the investigation.” concluded Brabant.

Anyone with information is invited to contact 911 or their local police station. It’s also possible to contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514-393-1133 or via their online reporting form.
