Health Minister Christian Dubé may not run again

By News Staff

Health Minister Christian Dubé may not run again in the next provincial election in 2026.

Dubé made this statement while answering a question on the set of the show “Tout le monde en parle” on Radio-Canada on Sunday evening.

“That’s not my intention, because I think that when I’ve given 10 years to the public…Not because I don’t like it, it’s the greatest challenge of my life in terms of management,” he said.

“I have about half the work done,” he added. “I have a lot left. There are two negotiations coming up with my colleague [at the Treasury Board]. That is what is most important. That is what will ensure that we deliver the goods. In two years, a lot can happen.”

The minister said he would focus on upcoming negotiations with the Fédération des médecins spécialisé du Québec (FMSQ) and the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ).

Last Thursday, the FMSQ called for an immediate moratorium on budget cuts in the health network affecting direct services to patients. He wants this measure to be implemented until the impacts of the planned cuts on the quality and access to care have been analyzed.

The president of the FMSQ, Dr. Vincent Oliva, denounced the cuts that institutions are starting to implement in order to eliminate $1.5 billion in expenses to return to a balanced budget in the network, at the request of the new Santé Québec agency.

Dubé was first elected as the MNA for the riding of Lévis in the 2012 provincial election. He was also President of the Treasury Board from 2018 to 2020.
