Cinémas Guzzo permanently shuts down two locations

By News Staff

The Cinémas Guzzo Group is announcing the permanent closure of two locations effective immediately.

Cinémas Guzzo is closing its Méga-Plex Marché Central 18 and Méga-Plex Saint-Jean 12 cinemas. The latter was the group’s most recent opening.

“This extremely difficult decision is necessary to ensure the sustainability of our family business, following the challenges imposed by the global health crisis of recent years. This, despite all efforts by our teams and collaborators to find solutions,” the company behind the chain of cinemas wrote in a news release Monday.

Last month, the Cinémas Guzzo Group vowed to try to protect the jobs of its nearly 500 employees after it was reported a decision by the Superior Court placed the company in liquidation – with calls to sell its assets to repay creditors.

Following Monday’s closures, Guzzo now has seven remaining locations.

“Aware of recent challenges and increased public attention, we remain determined to implement concrete measures to strengthen our financial stability and improve our services. Although we have strived to preserve all jobs, certain measures have become unavoidable,” the Group wrote.
