A three-vehicle collision left an equal number of people injured on Friday in Warwick, Centre-du-Québec.
Emergency services first received a call, at around 4 p.m., of a head-on collision between a sedan and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Route 116, near Rang des Moreau.
“According to preliminary information, there had been an initial head-on collision between two vehicles, and the third vehicle had been unable to avoid the first collision,” explained Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.
A driver in his twenties and a passenger in his thirties were seriously injured. Their lives were feared at the hospital on Friday evening.
“The last we heard from the hospital on Saturday was that they were still alive. There is also a driver in his sixties who has been taken to hospital with minor injuries,” she said.
The third driver involved was not injured.
Road conditions could explain the first head-on collision, which the SQ investigation will have to confirm.
“A police officer specializing in collision investigations has gone to the scene to try to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this event. Weather and/or road conditions could be a contributing factor,” acknowledged Sergeant Bilodeau.
It was not until around 10 p.m. that this section of Route 116 was reopened to traffic.
The SQ investigation continues.
