Advance polling starts Sunday in Terrebonne byelection

Advance voting in the Terrebonne provincial riding will begin this Sunday for the byelection happening on March 17.

Constituents will be able to go to the advance poll on Sunday, March 9 and Monday, March 10.

The locations, dates and times for advance polls can be found on the notice of entry they have received by mail, as well as on the Élections Québec website.

Voting will also soon take place in residential and long-term care centres (CHSLD), private seniors’ residences, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, palliative care homes, addiction resources and in the homes of electors who are unable to move about for health reasons.

Voting day will take place on Monday, March 17 in the constituency of 61,400 voters. Polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for both advance voting and election day.

Nine candidates in the running

Nine candidates were authorized for the byelection in the Terrebonne riding.

The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), which won the last election with 49.44 per cent of the vote, is represented by Alex Gagné. Catherine Gentilcore will represent the Parti Québécois, Virginie Bouchard will carry the Liberal colours, while Nadia Poirier is running for Québec Solidaire. The Conservative banner will be carried by Ange Claude Bigilimana.

Candidates from smaller parties are also running. They include Benoit Beauchamp of Climat Québec, Eric Bernier of the Union Nationale, Shawn Lalande McLean of the Parti Accès Propriété et équité, and Jean-Louis Thémis of the Parti culinaire du Québec.

The election was called following the resignation of former CAQ “super minister” Pierre Fitzgibbon in December.
