Spring COVID-19 vaccination campaign begins in Quebec

Santé Québec launched its spring COVID-19 vaccination campaign, starting with people most at risk of complications from the virus.

Since early April, mobile vaccination teams have been visiting seniors’ residences to begin administering doses.

This spring, a single dose is recommended for residents of long-term care homes and other seniors’ facilities, individuals aged 75 and over, people with weakened immune systems or on dialysis, as well as adults between 65 and 74 who live with chronic illnesses or in remote areas.

Those who have already received a COVID-19 vaccine must wait six months before receiving another dose.

Appointments can be made through Clic Santé or by calling 1-877-644-4545.

Santé Québec is emphasizing accessibility, offering vaccinations through mobile units, local clinics, and participating community pharmacies.

Martine Leblanc-Constant, director of public health operations, highlighted the province’s efforts to make the process as smooth as possible.

“Santé Québec is doing everything possible to facilitate access to vaccination for all,” said Leblanc-Constant. “People want a simple method and that’s what we are able to offer in our facilities.”

Parents of at-risk children between six months and 11 years old are encouraged to book appointments soon, as available vaccine doses will no longer be offered after June 2025.

Dr. Luc Boileau, Quebec’s National Director of Public Health, reminded the public that vaccination remains one of the best tools to prevent serious illness caused by COVID-19, especially for those with health conditions or advanced age.

“Offered free and quickly and easily accessible, the COVID-19 vaccination remains one of the best ways to prevent complications related to the disease,” said Dr. Boileau.
