Repair work on Papineau-Leblanc Bridge, between Montreal and Laval, begins Friday

Quebec’s Transport Ministry is informing road users that work will begin Friday on the Papineau-Leblanc Bridge (Highway 19), connecting Laval and Montreal over the Rivière des Prairies.

The work, which will be completed by the end of 2026, will include structural repairs, including the replacement of the guardrails, wheel guards, the asphalt pavement and bridge membrane.

Traffic obstructions and management

From Friday, April 25, at 10 p.m., to Monday, April 28, at 5 a.m.

  • Complete closure of Highway 19 (Papineau) southbound between Highway 440 (Jean-Noël-Lavoie) and Henri-Bourrassa Boulevard.
  • Access to Saint-Martin Boulevard will be possible.
  • Complete closure northbound between Henri-Bourassa and de la Concorde Boulevards.
  • To travel between Montreal and Laval, road users can use the Médéric-Martin Bridge (A-15) or the Pie-IX Bridge (R-125).
  • Detour routes will be marked with temporary signage.

Congestion is expected, the Ministry said.

Adding that it recommends road users traveling in the area allow additional time to reach their destination.

From Monday, April 28, at 5 a.m., until the end of 2026

  • Two traffic lanes per direction are available on the bridge at all times.
  • Partial or complete closures of the bridge are expected in the evening and at night.
  • Detour routes will be marked with temporary signage.

In the event of adverse weather conditions or operational constraints, these closures may be postponed, extended, or canceled.
