Laval Comiccon is back for its second edition this weekend at L’Enclav de la Place Bell, and fans of comics, cosplay and collectibles are in for a treat.
The two-day event, running April 26 and 27, brings together pop culture lovers of all ages.

This year’s convention takes over 25,000 square feet filled with everything from science fiction and fantasy to horror, anime, gaming and more. After a few quiet years due to the pandemic, the excitement is back in full force.
“The idea of doing a show for people that are a little bit, you know, maybe off island, it’s a really cool idea,” said Jason Rockman, spokesperson for the event.

A haven for collectors and creators
Laval Comiccon is a dream come true for collectors. With more than 100 artists and vendors on site, visitors can shop for comics, manga, toys, movies, artwork, clothing and rare finds.
There are also panels and workshops where fans can meet creators, ask questions, and even learn how to improve their own creative skills.
“Obviously, this is a much smaller show than Montreal. Not as many guests. It’s really more about the vendors and about the cosplay,” Rockman said. “These kind of events are really for [cosplayers] to come and just be with their people… to hang out at a like-minded location, talk about like-minded things, and maybe build friendships.”

A smashing appearance by the Hulk himself
Lou Ferrigno, best known for playing the Incredible Hulk in the original TV series, is the main celebrity guest this weekend. He’ll be meeting fans, signing autographs, and taking photos both days.
“It’s great because I never went to Laval, Canada before, especially with the fans here. I have three generations of fans, and I’m very excited because it’s an appreciation that they come and see me,” Ferrigno shared. “My whole life, you know, filming, I got a chance to visit different countries. But I’m excited about being here because, especially this part of Canada, is amazing. I’m amazed at how many people live here— they said like a million people live in Laval alone.”

He added that it’s always special to connect with fans, especially in a place he’s never visited before. The crowd in Laval did not disappoint, showing their admiration for the actor who brought the Hulk to life.
Ferrigno spoke with enthusiasm about his experience meeting fans. “I’m here taking selfies. They have my pictures they can buy or come to the panel,” he said. “The most important thing at the table is that connection with the fans. They ask me questions about my life, my physicality, the movies, the TV show, and especially I like hearing stories from them about what their life was like when they were watching the TV show.”
The actor shared how meaningful those personal connections are to him. “It makes my whole day. I had people come to me and say, ‘I met you five years ago, four years ago, and I lost over 150 pounds.’ You know, I’m 73 now, but the way I look is a great measure for people that it’s never too late to get in shape. It’s always great to be in shape, have a healthy living, healthy lifestyle.”
Looking forward to the rest of the weekend, Ferrigno added, “I just want to say I’m looking forward to this weekend. I would spend time in this town because I’ve always been a big fan of Canadian people.”
Cosplay brings fans together
The show floor is full of colourful costumes, creativity and character. Many attendees come dressed as their favourite movie, TV, and video game heroes.
“My real name is D’Ghor. I am the son of Marish from the house of Remjar,” said one attendee, dressed as a Klingon warrior. “We come here today to see how things are… because we’re going to invade this place next year. Hahaha.”

“I’ve always loved Alice in Wonderland,” said one attendee, dressed as Alice herself. “When I was young, I was blonde and my mother always dressed me up in blue dresses and white pinafore. So Alice Wonderland has always been important to me.”

“I like seeing the costumes,” said a young fan dressed as Spider-Man. “They look so cool. I came with my mom, dad and brother.”

“I think it’s the costume of other people. Everybody got a lot of imagination,” said one attendee, admiring the creativity around him.
“The best part is meeting people who love the same things as I do,” said another attendee. “Everyone here is so creative. It’s really inspiring.”

“I decided to come up today to cosplay and to meet other people with the same passions as me,” said one enthusiastic cosplayer. “My favourite part is looking at all the different cosplays, the different, like, creative people that come here and make different, like, costumes themselves. Like, the creativity here is like, amazing.”
“I’ve been cosplay since 2009,” added her friend. “I’m used to going to the Comic Con in Montreal, but Laval—I’ve never been before. So we wanted to try it, and it’s really great.
If you’re looking to have a smashing time, head down to Laval Comiccon— the fun continues until Sunday.
