Quebec officially releasing funds to finance Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital renovation

Quebec is officially releasing the necessary funds to finance the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital renovation project “in its entirety.”

That’s what Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé confirmed as he left a cabinet meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

The news was made public the day before, that the Legault government was able to come up with the money in order to start construction after being under pressure from all sides to get it done.

Hospital staff have come forward with reports of rodents, bats and ants inside the aging building.

The health minister says the funds are being taken from this year’s $3.6 billion budget by revising its Quebec Infrastructure Plan (PQI).

It allows work to begin at the hospital but also to launch other projects.

The first phase of the project, namely the multi-level parking structure, will cost around $90 million.

Preparatory work will begin in the coming days.
