A man in his 30s is facing multiple charges after being stopped by police early Wednesday morning for excessive speeding and impaired driving on Route 136 in Montreal.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) intercepted the vehicle travelling at 175 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. In addition to speeding, the driver reportedly committed several other Highway Safety Code violations, including dangerous driving, crossing road markings, and operating without headlights at night.
Upon further investigation, the man was arrested for impaired driving after the SQ says he registered more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit. His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
He received multiple tickets that amounted to $3,508 and a loss of 31 demerit points.
The SQ warns motorists that speeding remains a leading cause of fatal collisions in the province.
