March in Montreal against homophobia and transphobia

As part of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, the Émergence Foundation is organizing a large citizens’ march in downtown Montreal on Saturday afternoon.
The gathering is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Quartier des Spectacles, at the corner of Maisonneuve and Jeanne-Mance streets, near the Place-des-Arts metro station.
The Executive Director of the Émergence Foundation, Laurent Breault, invites the public to join this event in large numbers to collectively demonstrate that the setbacks experienced by the LGBTQ+ community cannot be tolerated.
“The idea is to have a festive, family-oriented peace march, a bit like ‘bring your ally,'” explained Breault. “We really want as many people as possible to show that, here in Quebec and Canada, we don’t accept the setbacks that are happening.”
This year, the Émergence Foundation launched an awareness campaign, called “The Ally Effect,” to promote and mobilize allies in the fight against homophobia and transphobia.
Laurent Breault hopes that this initiative will highlight the importance of solidarity in advancing the inclusion and recognition of people of sexual and gender diversity.
“We want to invite allies to become visible and take action to create a general movement of people allied with the LGBTQ+ communities to counter the misinformation, the backlash and the setbacks that we see,” Breault explained in an interview with The Canadian Press.
In a context of rising hate speech and legislative setbacks, he reminds us that no single voice should defend human rights alone.
