A person in the midst of a contagious measles outbreak reportedly stayed in Montreal from May 4 to 7 and visited several places in the city, according to the Montreal Regional Public Health Department (DRSP).
According to the notice issued Friday by the DRSP, the person visited four businesses, a hotel and a private residence for seniors (RPA) during their stay in Montreal.
They reportedly stayed at the Quality Inn Dorval and visited the Château Pierrefonds residential care home. The list of places frequented by the person infected with measles also includes Boulangerie Non Solo Pane, Tacos Frida, Bar Messorem, and the Subway restaurant on Saint-Charles Boulevard in Kirkland.
The DRSP therefore urges anyone who has been exposed to measles to check whether they are adequately protected against measles. It reiterates that vaccination remains the best way to protect against this virus.
Public Health also emphasizes that measles is an extremely contagious disease and that the risk of catching measles is nine out of 10 if an unprotected person comes into contact with a sick person.
Quebec has faced two measles outbreaks, the last of which ended in April 2025.
A virus circulating across Canada
A senior medical advisor with the Public Health Agency of Canada says the country could lose its measles-eradication status if the highly contagious disease continues to spread in the fall.
Dr. Marina Salvadori warned of this possibility two weeks ago, as Ontario’s case count rose by nearly 200 infections, adding that it would only happen if the prolonged spread continued beyond mid-October 2025.
Even if the eradication status ends, she believes measles can be eliminated again in the country.
Measles eradication is the absence of continuous transmission of the disease for 12 months or more in a given geographic area. Canada achieved this status in 1998.
