The vast majority of Quebecers won’t travel to the U.S. this summer, according to a survey by CAA-Québec.
The survey, which focused on vacation plans, found 54 per cent of people will stay in Quebec this summer, while 39 per cent will travel within the province during their holidays.
This means it will boost local travel for Canada.
The country will attract 16 per cent of vacationers compared to 10 per cent last year.
Only 4 per cent of survey respondents intend to travel to the U.S., a decline of eight per cent compared to 2024.
Philippe Blain, vice-president of Travel Services for CAA-Québec, says that the results relate to the shift they’ve seen recently.
“These annual results confirm the trends our travel counsellors have been seeing for the past few months. The current situation is changing the game for our Quebec travellers, but the summer holidays remain a sacred time for many Quebecers,” Blain said.
45 per cent of travellers say that the conflict between Canada and the U.S. affects their vacation planning. The sentiment is even stronger (61 per cent) for those choosing to visit other Canadian provinces.
Amid the current economic uncertainty, 56 per cent say that inflation impacts their holiday planning.
The top destinations in Canada are Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Alberta.
