By The Canadian Press

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) announced on Sunday afternoon that the suspicious death that occurred on Saturday evening in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough is the 16th homicide of the year on its territory.

“The victim is an 18-year-old man,” said spokesman Antony Dorelas.

“A second victim has been found. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” he said.

No arrests have been made as yet.

The investigation, led by the SPVM’s Major Crime Division, is still ongoing.

“Several investigative steps are being taken to understand the circumstances surrounding this event,” said Dorelas.

On Saturday, police were called to the scene of the tragedy at around 10 p.m., near the intersection of Notre-Dame and Sainte-Catherine. The area is notorious for being frequented by homeless people and for its encampments.
