Gunfire in Montreal’s Southwest borough

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a gunshot was reported on Monday evening in the Southwest borough.

At around 9:15 p.m. many 911 calls were made to police regarding one gunshot heard near the intersection of Saint-Charles Street and D’Argenson Street.

“When police arrived on the scene, they didn’t locate any victims or any suspects,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the SPVM. “Following multiple searches by the police officers, they finally located a bullet fragment on the ground.”

According to initial information, a suspect was seen firing one gunshot and then fleeing the scene before police arrived, the SPVM explained.

A perimeter was set up to protect the scene for investigators. The canine unit was also asked to assisted in the search for evidence.

“Several witnesses were of the event were met by the police,” said Chèvrefils. “Currently there’s no arrests and there’s still no victim that has been located.”

An investigation is ongoing.
