An investigation into two suspicious deaths in Sherbrooke has been transferred to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ)’s Crimes Against Persons Investigation Service.
It was an emergency call at around 2 a.m. on Sunday that led police to a residence on Ball Street, where two people were injured.
It could be a domestic tragedy, which the SQ investigation will have to confirm.
“For the moment, all the hypotheses are on the table. We won’t stop at one hypothesis, but it is one of the hypotheses,” SQ spokesperson Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu said in an interview.
“Witnesses contacted emergency services to report an injured individual outside the residence. On the scene, emergency responders helped a 38-year-old man who was seriously injured, and while securing the scene, police discovered a 32-year-old woman who was also seriously injured. Unfortunately, her injuries were life-threatening,” said Sergeant Beaulieu.
The man was taken to hospital and died of his injuries in the morning.
The nature of the injuries suffered by the two people could not be immediately clarified so as not to hinder the ongoing investigation. The motive was also unknown.
A large security perimeter was set up in the area to protect the scene, and Sûreté du Québec investigators were still on site Sunday morning, along with a dog handler and a forensic identification technician.
Camirand and Dufresne parks, as well as part of the Centre Sherbrooke’s rear parking lot, were also closed to the public during the police intervention.
The SQ investigation is continuing.
