Projet Montréal leader promises express bus lanes, faster construction permits

Projet Montréal Leader Luc Rabouin is promising to cut the time it takes to receive permits for new constructions in half, if his party is elected in the fall municipal election.

Rabouin says this will allow more housing units to be built quicker.

The Projet Montréal leader is also vowing to create a network of express bus lanes across the city, which he says will simplify the lives of Montrealers by improving traffic flow.

“These commitments reflect my philosophy: concrete solutions to the real problems of Montrealers, which we can achieve through the city’s resources,” the mayoral candidate said in a press release.

Rabouin, who is also the borough mayor for the Plateau-Mont-Royal, made those promises Wednesday while unveiling a new ad campaign entitled “A New Look at Montreal.” It features Rabouin alongside five pairs of coloured glasses — similar to the ones he wears — which he says represents a different facet of his personality and vision for Montreal.

“Montrealers want change — we can feel it,” Rabouin said. “They want something different, a new approach. This campaign showcases who I am and the new leadership I’m bringing to Montreal, alongside a renewed team that is part of this renewal. Without compromising our ambitions for Montreal, my vision is a simpler city that directly responds to the real needs of Montrealers.”

Rabouin says ecological transition, sustainable mobility, and affordable housing development are key components of his election campaign.

Montrealers will choose between him and Ensemble Montréal Leader Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the former federal tourism minister, when they head to the polls Nov. 2.
