A collision with a moose on Highway 20 in Cacouna, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, killed a motorcyclist on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on Friday evening at around 10 p.m.
“In all likelihood, the moose attempted to cross the tracks and the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the animal and ended up in collision with it,” explained Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in an interview Saturday morning.
The motorcyclist and his passenger, both in their 30s, were taken to hospital for treatment of “serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.”
“The man unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in the hours that followed at the hospital. As for the woman, we are told that she is out of danger, but remains hospitalized according to the latest news,” said Sergeant Bilodeau.
The moose died following the impact with the motorcycle.
A police officer specializing in collision investigations attended the scene to analyze the collision.
The SQ investigation is ongoing.
