31-year-old Montreal woman dies after falling from ladder at work

A 31-year-old worker lost her life after falling from a ladder Tuesday morning in Montreal.

The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the courtyard of the Pensionnat Notre-Dame-des-Anges, a private elementary school located on Rosemont Blvd. and Assomption Blvd., in the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie.

The roof of the elementary school is under construction and the employee of the company carrying out the work fell several metres while she was high up on a ladder leading to the roof. When emergency services arrived, the woman was lying on the ground, unconscious and seriously injured.

The victim was brought to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries in the early afternoon.
Inspectors from the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail were still on site in the early afternoon to try to determine the circumstances of the event.

This is the second serious work accident to occur since the return from the construction holiday.

Early Monday afternoon, a 21-year-old worker was crushed to death by the bucket of an excavator on a road construction site in Terrebonne.

The investigation is ongoing.
