The Montreal Canadiens could be moving the rights to star goaltender Carey Price.
Reports indicate that the Habs are looking to ship off Price’s contract to make room for their salary cap.
Montreal is currently sitting $5.9 million over the cap for the 2025-26 season. $10.5 million of the team’s salary is allocated to Price’s contract.
The team paid $5.5 million in signing bonuses to the goaltender on Monday, hoping that will increase the odds of another team picking up Price’s contract.
NHL teams’ payrolls must fall between the cap of $95.5 million and the floor of $70.6 million.
Price, who is the Habs all-time win leader with 361 wins, and all-time games played leader with 804 games, hasn’t played since April 29, 2022.
