Three men charged in killing of homeless man in Montreal’s Saint-Henri

Three men appeared in court Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 42-year-old homeless man early Sunday at an encampment in Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighbourhood.

Police arrested the suspects shortly after the attack, which claimed the life of Manuel De Jesus Garcia Zamora.

Leamcharoeung Yort , 47, was taken into custody near the scene around 6:30 a.m. Yort was charged with committing an assault including causing wound, maim, and disfigurement.

Vincent Gagné-Giard, 29, and Nigel Moses, 40, were arrested a short time later. Gagné-Giard was charged for accessory after the fact to aggravated assault. Moses was charged with second degree murder. Both have prior criminal records.

A 911 call came in around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, reporting a fight between two individuals near the intersection of Charlebois and Saint-Philippe streets, close to Place-Saint-Henri metro station in the Le Sud-Ouest borough.

“Upon arriving at the scene, police officers located the victim, a 42-year-old man, in a wooded area between the metro and the railroad tracks, with a serious injury to his upper body. The man had been struck by a sharp object. He was conscious when police arrived, but his condition deteriorated,” said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin.

The man was unconscious when he was transported to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

It was the 29th homicide in the city since the beginning of the year.
