Thousands without power Friday in Montérégie and Montreal amid freezing rain advisory for this weekend

Over 13,500 Hydro-Québec customers were without power Friday morning.

As of 10:20 a.m., more than 4,600 addresses in Montreal were affected by the outage.

Montérégie was the worst hit with nearly 5,200 customers experiencing an outage. More than 1,000 addresses each in Outaouais and the Laurentians were also touched by the outage.

“For the outage in Montérégie in the Beloeil area, the cause of the outage is a failure on a power line. A team is on site and work is underway. The number of customers affected by the outage is currently decreasing, and all customers should have service restored by noon,” said Hydro to CityNews by email.

By 3 p.m. the numbers in the Montérégie were at 53 and Montreal at 1,082 customers in the dark, representing about half of the outage in the province.

Then at 4 p.m. the numbers for Montreal climbed to 3,106 off the grid and almost 1,800 in the Laurentians.

By 6:45 p.m., under 1,000 customers were affected by outages, with less than 340 in Montreal.

Early Friday morning, only about 420 Hydro-Quebec customers were without electricity.

During the peak of the outage following a snowstorm earlier in the week, more than 360,000 customers were forced in the dark.
