The union representing administrative, technical and professional transit staff at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) says it has reached a tentative agreement with the STM, cancelling a strike that had been planned for Nov. 19.
The Syndicat du personnel administratif, technique et professionnel du transport en commun (CUPE 2850) announced the deal Sunday.
“We are pleased to have reached a negotiated agreement. We will not be commenting further until our members can see the details of the agreement,” said Stéphane Lamont, President of CUPE 2850.
The union, which represents 1,300 workers, secured a strike mandate in May 2025 — its first in 40 years of CUPE accreditation. The collective agreement expired on Jan. 4, 2025.
CUPE has 143,000 members in Quebec, including about 8,700 in ground transportation.
The union is also active in social services, communications, education, universities, energy, municipalities, Crown corporations and public agencies, air transport, the mixed sector, marine transport and fire services. It is the largest union affiliated with the FTQ.
