By The Canadian Press and CityNews

A head-on collision involving a cube truck and car left one person dead and another injured early Wednesday on Highway 50 near Mirabel, in the Laurentians.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the vehicle was travelling west on Highway 50 before colliding with the truck around 5:30 a.m. near exit 272 — at a location where there is only one lane in each direction without a median.

The 28-year-old driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he died a few hours later.

He has been identified by TVA Nouvelles as Joey Raymond.

His death was confirmed in a Facebook post by his partner Kelly Bilodeau.

“So it is with a very, very heavy heart this morning that I must announce that Joey passed away this morning! My love! If you only knew what a wonderful dad you were! How am I supposed to tell the children about your passing?” Bilodeau wrote.

“I’m devastated! This is awful! I love you so much! Fly high! And make all the stars shine like you made our hearts shine every day! I don’t think I’ll ever get over this.”

The truck driver sustained minor injuries. A third vehicle was involved in the collision, but its driver was reportedly uninjured.

SQ officers note that “weather and road conditions were difficult at the time of the collision.”

In order for first responders to do their job and for police to conduct their investigation, Highway 50 was completely closed to traffic between Exit 272 and the entrance from Route 148.

Caution is advised on the roads Wednesday, as about 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected during the day in the Greater Montreal area.
