Longueuil police arrest 2 suspects behind extortions in Saint-Lambert

Longueuil police (SPAL) said they have arrested two men involved in the extortion of multiple businesses in Saint-Lambert earlier this year.

In a press release, SPAL said that investigators from the Organized Crime and Major Crimes section arrested suspects, Abdel Camara, 20 and Mohamad Jamil Allo, 20 Thursday morning.

“These arrests are the result of several months of investigation as part of Project CABOSSE, which was launched after a wave of threats and criminal acts targeting local restaurant owners,” the police said.

The first of the three alleged incidents took place on Aug. 28 when a 16-year-old visited three businesses, Café Limousine, Cru Oyster Bar, Primi Piatti, all located in Saint-Lambert. He allegedly delivered “envelopes containing ammunition and threatening letters demanding between $5,000 and $7,500, under penalty of reprisals.”

In another incident on Sept. 29, Café Limousine was targeted by an arson attempt.

Primi Piatti was set on fire and had its windows smashed the following day, Sept. 30, resulting in “hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage,” according to SPAL.

Three suspects had been previously arrested related to the incidents, including Elisha Edens Louis, 19, from Montreal, Bastien Beckham Akimana, 19 of Lasalle and a minor, police said.
