Montreal police investigate fatal tent fire in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

A man in his 30s was found dead early Sunday after a fire broke out inside a tent in Montreal’s Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.

Police say a 911 call came in around 7:50 a.m. reporting the fire near Louis-Hébert and Masson streets.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but the man was found unconscious and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SPVM’s arson unit is investigating the cause and circumstances of the fire.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine whether the man died before the fire or from smoke inhalation.
