Bodies of 2 victims recovered after tractor sinks in Lanaudière lake

By The Canadian Press

The bodies of a man and a child were found Thursday in a lake in Saint-Zénon, in the Lanaudière region, after the tractor they were riding sank.

The man, in his forties, accompanied by a young child, was clearing snow from a path around Lake Ernest on Wednesday evening, according to information from Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Shortly before 6 p.m., a family member reportedly noticed that the tractor was sinking into the lake and contacted emergency services.

Once on the scene, police searched the area around the lake and nearby cottages but were unable to locate the two people.

SQ divers who were called in on Thursday morning discovered the two bodies inside the tractor at around 11:30 a.m.

An investigation has been launched by the coroner. There were no criminal elements involved, said SQ spokesperson Marc Tessier.
