A woman’s body was recovered from the St. Lawrence River early Tuesday afternoon near a dock in the Port of Quebec City.
At first glance, police are working on the assumption that it could be the body of Susana Rocha Cruz, 44, who has been missing since Jan. 7 in Quebec City, but Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) spokesperson Laurence Godbout did not want to venture any further: “It could be Susana Rocha Cruz. At this time, the body has not been formally identified, so the investigation is ongoing and evolving.”
On Monday, a 43-year-old man from Laval, Abraham Gonzales Leon, was questioned by Quebec police and ultimately arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm that evening.
The SPVQ confirmed that the individual and the missing woman knew each other. If it is confirmed that the body recovered is indeed that of Rocha Cruz, the charges against him could be increased.
Rocha Cruz, of Mexican origin, worked as a housekeeper in the hotel industry.
