The body recovered a week ago from the St. Lawrence River at the Port of Quebec is that of Susana Rocha Cruz, who appears to have been the victim of a homicide.
The Quebec City police department (SPVQ) confirmed Tuesday morning that the body was that of the 44-year-old woman who had been missing since Jan. 7 in Quebec City.
“The investigation shows that this was a homicide,” authorities also said.
Abraham Gonzales Leon, 43, of Laval, was charged Tuesday at the Quebec City courthouse with the second-degree murder of Susana Rocha Cruz.
Rocha Cruz’s body was recovered on Jan. 13 in the early afternoon near a wharf in the Port of Quebec.
The victim, of Mexican origin, worked as a housekeeper in the hotel industry.
