A Quebec fisherman has broken a record for the largest halibut caught from the Saguenay Fjord.
Alain Hamel caught a female halibut that was 2.05 metres long and weighed 244 lbs.
The Fjord Museum says it’s the largest halibut caught since the start of its scientific fishing program.
The museum adds it took two-and-a-half hour for Hamel to pull the fish out of the water.
She was found to have crab inside her stomach.
The ice fishing was part of a scientific research project designed to learn more about the fjord’s halibut.
“A huge thank you to all the participating fishermen for their valuable collaboration and contribution to the advancement of knowledge,” the Fjord Museum wrote on Facebook.
