Mirabel police officer appears in court on assault charge

A police officer with the Mirabel police appeared in court earlier this month in connection with an assault investigation led by Quebec’s Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI).

Officer Laurent Charest appeared at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse on Jan. 9, where he faces a single count of assault. The alleged offence is said to have occurred in 2025 at the Mirabel police station.

The BEI investigation falls under the agency’s mandate to examine criminal allegations against police officers when the complainant is a member of the First Nations or Inuit communities. The BEI is also responsible for investigating any allegations involving sexual offences committed by police officers while on duty.

No further details were released at this stage.
