Montreal producer, songwriter becomes two-time Grammy winner

"Surreal moment," says Montreal producer and songwriter, Chase Worrell, who is now a two-time Grammy winner. The Concordia University graduate shares his journey from living in Brossard to moving to Los Angeles with a dream. Pamela Pagano reports.

Just over a year ago, Chase Worrell drove from Montreal all the way to Los Angeles, California.

The songwriter and producer from Brossard had already secured his first Grammy win back in 2024, producing the song Silver Platter‘ by Khalid from the Barbie movie.

But now living in a new city over 4,500 km away, he continues to live out his dream. After the award show on Feb. 1, he became a two-time Grammy Award winner.

“It’s a surreal moment when you get to hear the album get called and you kind of just pause for a second,” said Worrell. “And you don’t know what to do, but yeah, screams of joy.”

“It’s definitely surreal, this is like the first time I actually go and attend the ceremony itself.”

He got to attend alongside JHeart — a singer, songwriter, and record producer who has collaborated with Cher, Justin Bieber, JLO, and more.

Together they worked on the song Overqualified‘ by Durand Bernarr, whose album won a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album.

The song — produced and co-written by Worrell — was built from an idea he had years ago when living in an apartment in Montreal’s St Henri.

The Concordia University Communications graduate says his passion for music began at eight years old after taking piano lessons and was inspired by many around him.

“I couldn’t have done it or made it this far at least without my best friend Jason who’s helped me along the journey. I moved into a house with him, and I’ve been working with my manager Corey Kastner for over eight years, and he’s just been helping me every day, and everybody’s from Montreal, including my mentor ‘Child’,” Worrell explained.

“So yeah, it’s a Montreal movement. It feels special that we’re all kind of in each other’s ecosystems and uplifting each other, all while helping each other and doing separate things at the same time,” he added. “It’s really cool to see, hopefully we can, you know, keep this thing going.”

Aside from his two wins, Worrell has a total of four Grammy nominations. Crediting moments like winning Battle of the Beatmakers in Toronto back in 2016, hosted by Drake-affiliated producers, and lots of hard work getting him to where he is today.

As for what’s next? There’s more music in the making.

“It’s gonna be a busy, busy 2026,” he said. “It already has been.”

“I haven’t stopped. I got maybe a day off after the Grammys,” he added. “And it’s been back to full swing.”
