Montreal tourism bounces back in 2025 with nearly 12M visitors

Montreal welcomed 11.9 million visitors in 2025, a 7.3 per cent increase from the previous year, according to Tourisme Montréal’s annual report released Tuesday.

The rebound reflects a strong domestic market and the city’s ability to adapt amid global uncertainty.

Canadian travellers led the growth, with 8.8 million visitors, up 10 per cent from 2024. Atlantic Canada posted the largest gains at 17 per cent.

U.S. arrivals ended the year down five per cent, while international markets rose two per cent, with France standing out at more than 470,000 visitors.

Shorter booking windows, averaging 50 days instead of the usual 90, point to shifting travel habits in an unpredictable economic and geopolitical environment.

Tourist spending remained steady at $5.8 billion, with food and accommodation accounting for roughly three-quarters of expenditures.

Montreal hotels saw high occupancy, with over 90 days above 80 per cent, a seven per cent increase from 2024, despite a four per cent growth in available rooms.

The city’s official tourism site, MTL.org, attracted 11.8 million visits in 2025, up 14.5 per cent from 2024.
